Fuel pressure?

Does it do it when it is cold or only when it is hot?

the 90 will be OBD1 so almost useless to try to get codes from it.

Does it idle ok in drive?

Oh yea it idle's good in drive I forgot to say its a straight 6 it had duel tanks but the rear had a hole and didn't work. I have dropped the tank and capped off the lines and deleated the rear but I still can't get the gauge to work. It hasn't worked since I got the truck !!

My initial guess would be a decent vacuum leak or vacuum line plugged up somewhere too.  Those can cause some very strange symptoms for sure.  When you rev it up does it rev normally or is there a noticeable lag when you first press down the gas pedal ?

Is the A/C on (if it has it) when this happens ?  Also, with dual tanks, isn't there some kind of check valve between them ?  I don't know for sure though as I have no experience with Fords around that year but Mustangs.  I did have a problem with an 88 Mustang GT where it would either do what you're saying or would surge up and down when in P or N.  It turned out, on it, to be the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.

As I said, no experience with Ford trucks from that time frame but IF it has a throttle body or MAF sensor have you looked inside them to make sure they're not all gunked up ?

Madhatter, I know the ac wasn't on when he was having this problem, since it wasn't working at that time. Think he said it needed a compressor or clutch.

take the ignition module off and have one the autoadvancezones stores test it for you. They will need to test it several times in a row to heat it up. If it test bad its definitely bad, if it test good, replace it anyway..LOL...those things are notorious for causing weird problems, usually after running a while, but not always.

I finally figured out the problem the truck is a 90 but some parts are different and I have to look it up as a 91 instead of a 90 ! So the TPS sensor so it's running good now.
