HEI not sparking
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:07:23 AM »

Went to get the truck running this weekend, it's been sitting in the barn for a few months so I figured it would take a little work but after a few tries its turning over and is getting gas but the plugs won't fire.  I came back today to try again but still the same problem.  It's getting 12 volts to the batt side of the coil and when the ing switch is flicked on and off it's making my tach reset so I know it's getting power to the coil.  I even tried swapping in another cap and rechecked all the wiring and still no fire to the plugs, all I can figure is something is wrong with the bottom part of the distributer there's no moisture in it and it ran fine when I parked it in there.  I would just throw in anothere distributer but I just sold all off them a couple months ago for nothing. Im hoping it's something simple or I can find another good one somebody doesn't need.

No it's an 86 Chevy had a HEI with the aftermarket accel 50000 volt coil but I swapped the cap off a stock truck HEI and still nothing, it's gotta be in the distributer because everything is getting power but still no spark

take the ignition module out of the distributor and to a parts store so they can test it for you...more than likely, its the ignition module

I am still confused.  It is a toyota with a chevy motor?  If so I think Tippy is right, he just beat me with the answer.

A cheap easy fix  :)

I run that same module on my toyota, just wired into the toy disty.

should be bolted down inside the dizzy, look for where the wires go into the dizzy, they should plug into a little back box, it has two bolts holding it down, shouldn't be nothing to it
